Then rat snakes are long and very powerful constrictors. The adult rat snakes have 3 distinguished color patterns, and they pre-dominantly range from being plain, striped and blotched. The plain snake is usually black, the striped one can have a multitude of colors, and the blotched one is usually light gray, yellow or brown.
The breeding of the rat snakes takes place from April to June and even in autumn. The females lays about 5-30 smooth shelled eggs under leaves or rocks, which hatch from August-October.
Rat snakes dwell in canyons, hardwood forest, swamps, farmlands, fields or even barns. They are found in Ontario, Vermont, Texas, Mexico, Minnesota and Michigan.
Rat snakes are adept at climbing trees and rafters in their quest to look for food. They prey on eggs, birds, mice, lizards and small mammals.
