Brown Snakes

Brown snakes are small snakes which are generally dark brown or grayish brown in color. It has two parallel rows of small dark spots. Its belly is pale yellow, brown or pinkish in color and it has smooth scales which are divided into 15-17 rows. Brown snakes starts its breeding from spring and fall and the babies usually hatch from June to September. It is mostly found in moist woodlands, fresh water regions, saltwater marshes, ponds, gardens, etc and its range extends from Minnesota, Florida Keys, Texas and Mexico.

Brown Snakes are compelled to hibernate by November; however, they may come out briefly during periods of warm winter weather. They hide themselves under trash or flat rocks. They prey on snails, earthworms and slugs. Brown snakes do not bite, but like most of the anal snakes, they will release musk from their anal glands, if they are provoked.
